Positive Behaviour Support
Supporting people in situations where there
is a behaviour of concern. Avivo is a registered
provider for Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
Redefine potential. Choose Positive.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach for supporting people in situations where there is a behaviour of concern.
Think of it as being a behaviour coach for someone – figuring out what triggers their actions and coming up with creative ways to improve situations. By practicing, being patient, and celebrating progress, we support them in growing more self-assured and skilled in their behaviour.

Commonly asked questions:
What is a Positive Behaviour Support Plan?
A Positive Behaviour Support Plan is a tailored set of actions created in consultation with a person and their support network to address behaviours of concern. The purpose of the plan is to:
- Assist the person with disability in developing skills that will ultimately reduce these behaviours.
- Guide carers and support workers with practical advice to help and support the person with disability when they are displaying behaviours of concern.
You can engage Avivo’s Behaviour Support Practitioners, whether or not you use Avivo for other supports and services.

How is PBS implemented?
Our PBS practitioners work together to develop a written plan to reduce challenging behaviours and implement effective strategies to improve quality of life. This process includes:
- Assessment and Planning: Identify triggers, set goals and create a tailored strategy to boost positive behaviours and diminish challenging ones.
- Teaching and Support: Train the individual, guide caregivers and reinforce positive actions.
- Monitoring and Adjustments: Track progress and tweak the plan with input from the support team for ongoing positive behaviour improvements.

All of our services meet the requirements and standards outlined by the Quality and Safeguards Commission. Our team of registered Behaviour Support Practitioners are ready to support individuals, families and carers by working with them to develop a Behaviour Support Plan.
What skills and strategies can PBS provide?
- Communication and social skills
- Emotions recognition and regulation
- Goal setting and motivational training
- Addictive behaviour management
- Grief and loss-coping strategies
- Psycho-education and awareness training for caregivers
The PBS service is funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and can be found under the NDIS line-item Capacity Building Supports – Improved Relationships – Behaviour Support Intervention. You need to have this funding line-item in your NDIS plan to be able to work with our Behaviour Support team.
What if PBS funding is not in the NDIS plan?
- If the person self- or plan-manages their NDIS funding – contact the Support Coordinator, service provider or the NDIA who can assist with the process of having PBS funding included in the plan.
- If a service provider manages the person’s NDIS funding – ask a Support Coordinator or check in with the organisation to see if PBS can be included in the plan.
- You can explore having PBS included as a part of a plan review, or you can request a change in circumstances by completing an S.48 Form. More information on this process can be found here.
