The Project

An Avivo Initiative
At Avivo, we believe that support work is about creating genuine human connections to enable people to live their most meaningful lives, in their own way.
Yet many stereotypes about the nature of support work persist. We wanted to celebrate these connections and the people who create them every day, by filling our public spaces with life-size monuments that honour a different type of hero and spark conversations about the nature and value of support work.
Creating The Support Project.
The Avivo team collaborated with designer and artist Mark Braddock to develop ideas for a unique, creative and impactful campaign that would highlight the power of human connections and encourage people to challenge stereotypes about support work.
From there, The Support Project was created to bring real human connections to life.

The Process
We identified support workers and their customers among our community who would be willing to share their stories, and we are grateful for the support from Vai, Karlee, Kenny, Paul, Jasmine, and Jess for generously sharing their personal stories – and their portraits – for this project.
The designs were refined and manufactured over many months to create the larger-than-life artworks.
The journey from concept to launch has been meticulously documented through photography and videography to capture the powerful stories and personal experiences of the real people behind the monuments.
Creating the Support project
How can I get involved?
We hope The Support Project inspires you to join us in recognising and celebrating the valuable contributions made by support workers in our communities every day.
The Support Project is an Avivo initiative that aims to benefit the entire sector by raising public awareness of the importance and value of support workers.
Ultimately, we’d like to attract more people to pursue a fulfilling career in the sector and help meet the growing demand for support workers in our communities.
We’d love your help to spread the message by celebrating the unsung heroes in your communities and sharing content from The Support Project on Facebook or Instagram.
If you’d like to discuss partnering with Avivo on The Support Project, please email comms.engagement@avivo.org.au.
