The Monuments

Monumental Connections.
The Support Project features three life-size monuments, each consisting of two intersecting planes. On one plane, there is a laser-cut portrait of a support worker: on the other, a portrait of their customer.
The two planes come together to form a self-supporting structure.
As viewers walk around the monument, they will see each individual portrait appear distinctly, then merge with the other, and then separate again.
Honouring the
un-heroes among us.

The monuments symbolise the power of human connection and the mutual support that exists between a support worker and their customer: alone, they may falter, but together, they stand strong.
Designer and artist, Mark Braddock, developed the concept for the ‘relationship portraits’ to demonstrate the unique, strong bond and mutual support that exists between a support worker and their customer.
The striking artworks will be catalysts for conversations about the importance and value of support workers in our communities and encourage more people to create bonds of mutual support in their own lives.
Through greater awareness, the initiative also aims to dispel persistent stereotypes about the nature of support work and promote the fulfilling career opportunities available in the sector.
Monuments on tour.
The life-sized monuments were officially unveiled to members of the Avivo community and the public on 28 June 2024 at King’s Park.
Following the launch, the monuments are now on tour and will be featured in public places across Western Australia as a striking visual reminder of the power of genuine human connections.
We encourage you to get out and visit these incredible monuments as they visit your community and acknowledge the incredible work of support workers around the WA.
